Eagle Hills, Julius Berger set to build Africa’s largest master-planned community in Nigeria
As an emerging city, Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory of Nigeria, continues to be a massive construction site that parades the best in architecture and the most sophisticated in engineering construction and building technology.
The city has and continues to welcome renowned local and international real estate investors and developers and, this time, the Abu Dhabi-based Eagle Hills is in town and has engaged the German construction giant, Julius Berger, as a construction partner to build the Abuja Centenary City.
Abuja Centenary City, envisaged as a spectacular city hub, is a fitting tribute to Nigeria on its 100th year of formation sitting on 1,300-hectare master-planned community as the largest of its kind in Africa. It has three iconic features—the Africa Tower, scaling high at 308 metres, The Mall of Nigeria and a 30-hectare Nigeria Park. Africa Tower will be the tallest building in the continent while the mall will be its largest retail and entertainment destination.
Both Julius Berger and Eagle Hills have incredible credentials in the construction industry and their involvement in the development of the Abuja Centenary City gives fillip to its description as the city of the future envisaged as “a city within the city that will add much value to Nigerian economy”.
Historically, Julius Berger has played a strong role in the development of Nigeria’s industrial and civil infrastructure for close to 50 years during which time the company became closely involved in the planning and construction of Nigeria’s new capital, Abuja FCT.
The company is an industry leader and has strong track record of successfully delivering high quality work. It has constructed major civil engineering and building projects throughout the country, including road networks, bridges, damns and ports, as well as airports, industrial and sports facilities and residential developments.
Eagle Hills, on it part, has unprecedented credentials for creating mixed-use master-planned communities, with a pedigree as a developer of global mega-projects. All of the residential projects create a lifestyle that captures the very best the city has to offer.
The company is focused on the development of new city hubs in fast-growth international markets. Earlier this year, it announced the launch of two projects—the development of business, residential and commercial areas in the river zone of Belgrade, Serbia, and their flagship project in Nigeria—the Abuja Centenary City.
For Detlev Lubasch, Julius Berger’s Managing Director, “being part of the Abuja Centenary City project is a testament to our long standing commitment to Nigeria. Our goal goes beyond working on the development of this iconic city. We are strongly focused on transferring knowledge to our Nigerian employees through training and development, and we are proud of our contribution to the development of specialist and technical skills of our workforce here.”
Mohammed Alabbar, a board member of Eagle Hills, agrees, saying, “Julius Berger has a long and distinguished record of delivering important projects in Nigeria and we are delighted to partner with them to develop Abuja Centenary City. The City will be the world’s second-largest private city development. It will promote world-class multinational and domestic businesses in a planned environment that will encourage business and trade in the 21st century.”
