FG promises 5,000 houses in 27 months, commissions 324-unit FMBN-ELIM Estate
The Federal Government of Nigeria will be providing an additional 5,000 housing units to the housing stock in the country in the next 27months, Akon Eyakenyi, the minister of Lands, Housing and Urban Development has said.
The minister, who disclosed this at the commissioning of 324 housing units estate jointly developed by the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) and ELIM Estates Limited in Ibagwa, Igbo Eze South Local Government Area of Enugu State, explained that the additional housing units would be delivered through her ministry and FMBN.
The FMBN-ELIM Estate, built through the National Housing Fund (NHF) scheme targets home seekers in no-income, low income, and middle-income group in Nigeria.
According to Gimba Yau-Kumo, FMBN MD/CEO, the estate is one of the several housing estates that the apex mortgage bank has funded across the nation, noting that it was built in record time of 22 months ahead of promised delivery date.
FMBN provided 100 percent of the funds for the development of the estate which comprises 128 one-bedroom terrace units to be sold at N3.5 million, 32 units of two-bedroom terrace units at the cost of N4.5 million each, 89 units of two-bedroom units in blocks of flats at the cost of N5.8million each and 75 unit of three- bedroom bungalows at N10 million each.
President Goodluck Jonathan who was represented at the commissioning by Namadi Sambo, the Vice President, commended the efforts of FMBN at funding housing estates across the country, citing the commissioning last month of the Aviation Village in Abuja and now ELIM Estate in Enugu.
Sullivan Chime, the governor of Enugu State, thanked FMBN for not only supporting many estates development in Enugu to the tune of N3.1billion, but also promising another loan of N2 billion for housing estates development in the state.
