Fixtures and fittings: New trend favours foreign aluminum doors

The era of locally-made wooden doors is almost over as modern well-finished aluminum foreign doors are fast becoming the trend in most Nigerian homes. Innovative exteriors and more importantly re-engineered mechanism to ease utility are the hallmarks of this new item of luxury.

Leveraging on its well-tailored exterior finishing, the new imports from Turkey and sometimes China are gradually becoming the preferred choice by property developers and homeowners as they are readily available in varying colours, designs, types and sizes to fit every door opening such as 2.6x7ft, 3x7ft and 4x7ft.

While wooden doors might be limited to in-door use, the new aluminum doors offer much more in utility than regular bedroom use as they come with innovative designs making them suitable for exterior and bathroom use with little or no worry over durability.

Other selling points for the new doors are the easy maintenance, increased levels of security, ability to meet same architectural specifications that wooden doors can meet and the capacity to provide both thermal and acoustic insulation resulting in significant savings in terms of energy.

Ifeanyi Okeke, field engineer, Jidak Standard Limited, a major dealer in aluminum door, told our reporter that another outstanding feature of these doors is its perceived value addition to a property’s worth when compared with local wooden doors.
