Gracefield Phoenix: New destination offering residential opportunity on lagoon shoreline

For home-seekers desiring to live close to nature and enjoy the sensual touch of cool sea breeze, the next destination is Gracefield Phoenix, a new urban community rising from land reclamation from the Lagos Lagoon and offering lifestyle and residential opportunity.

Approved by the Lagos State government as part of the new Lekki master-plan, Gracefield is located right on the lagoon shoreline at the end of Chevron Drive, Lekki and, according to Gravitas Development, the project owner, it is a new revelation in city development.

“Lagos  is set to witness a fundamental positive shift in new city development and real estate construction as Gracefield Phoenix is designed and being implemented to be eco-friendly, ensuring sustainability in all aspects of the development”,  says Olufemi Babalola, the company’s CEO.

The project is conceived to be delivered as a truly live, work and play environment, offering premium lifestyle to match any other prime development in the world while its residential area is designed to have premium properties on substantial plots.

There will be varieties of house-types ranging from condominium to terraced houses and single household units, constructed to world class standard, and offered at reasonable prices. The commercial area will have an upscale shopping area that is suited to serve the development, just as the business park will offer purpose-built office environment to generate the vibrancy and orderliness necessary for wealth creation centres.

To ensure they  deliver this world class new urban metropolis sitting on approximately 100 hectares of land on the Lekki lagoon, the company has assembled a team of engineers, consultants and other project partners, while engaging the services of two world leading dredging and reclamation companies – Boskalis and Van Oord, both of Netherlands, to carry out the reclamation.

Aurecon of South Africa is the main engineering consultant. Stauch Vorster carried out the urban planning and layout drawing of this integrated new city development while Lafarge Cement are the ready-mix concrete partners.

Infrastructure facilities such as power, water and domestic gas are off-grid to ensure reliability and efficiency and iPNX are committed to installing optic fibre in the new city to ensure supermarket telecom facility amongst other support services.

“Gracefield Phoenix will set a standard of excellence in lifestyle integrated living in Africa, and compares very well with the best in the world”, says Pieter Van Heerden of Aurecon, the lead project managers, noting that this is the first real ‘community’ centred layout he has seen in a long time.

Olufemi assures there is plan in place to monitor and control carbon emission on the development, ensure recycling is an integral part of waste management and that pollution of the lagoon environment is avoided, adding that pockets of conservation areas and natural woodlands are planned into the development.

“The numerous quays and jetties within the environment will provide berthing spots for subscribers’ marine craft”, he says, pointing out that the residential areas are to provide a tranquil ambience that is second to none while the enterprise area will provide an ideal environment for wealth creation and idea development just as library and arts facilities are an integral part of the public area.
