Lafarge begins housing units construction for host community in Ogun

Conscious of environmental hazards inherent in blasting and mining limestone around the limestone belts in Ewekoro Local Government Area of Ogun State, Lafarge WAPCO Operations, an operational business of Lafarge Africa, has begun construction of housing units for the relocation of about 1,000 people in its host community.

The construction of housing units (first phase) and other agreed facilities for the entire people of Oke-Oko, Sekoni, one of Lafarge WAPCO’s host communities in Ewekoro on 60 acres of land, was conceived by the cement company to relocate the people to a more environment-friendly place where blasting and mining of limestone would not affect them.

Speaking at the inauguration of housing facilities held at new Oke-Oko, Sekoni in Ewekoro recently, Adepeju Adebajo, managing director, Lafarge Africa, disclosed that the relocation of the people and their deities was initiated by the management to secure its host community from the environmental hazards of limestone blasting and mining.
