More housing schemes coming in 2015 for LagosHOMS as 44 new homeowners emerge

Lagos State government has said that more new housing schemes would be constructed in 2015 for its Home Ownership Mortgage Scheme (LagosHOMS) as it plans to extend the mortgage scheme, which has produced many home owners, to every nook and cranny of the state in the new year.

The state governor, Babatunde Fashola, who stated this at the 10th edition of the public draw where a new set of winners emerged disclosed that construction of more schemes will also commence in 2015.

Fashola, who was represented at the draw by Suliaman Alabi-Yusuf, his Special Adviser Project Implementation and Monitoring, revealed that the new schemes would be unveiled at Oko-Oba in Agege, Gbagada, Ilubirin, Alausa etc.

A total of 44 new homeowners produced from the draw won one, two and three bedroom apartments at various schemes across the state.

“One of Fashola’s promises to residents while campaigning to be governor of Lagos was to provide more homes for Lagosians. Today, that promise has been fulfilled,” Suliaman said, adding that the dream of most people to become homeowners in Lagos have been turned into reality through the scheme.

According to him, the LagosHOMS initiative has created several job opportunities, increased the state’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and grown the state housing stock simultaneously.

Earlier, Akinola Kojo Sagoe, Executive Secretary, Lagos State Mortgage Board (LMB) in his opening speech revealed that the board had previously held nine draws, producing well over 500 winners.

Sagoe explained that the home mortgage initiative was envisioned by the state government to address the problem of housing deficit in Lagos State because the huge population is gradually but certainly meeting its mission.

Omobola Fashola, Executive Director Operations commended the efforts of the State Government as well as the members of staff of the Lagos State Mortgage Board for working diligently towards actualizing the laudable initiative of Governor Fashola.

According to her, for more people to access this laudable programme which is financed with tax-payers monies, the Lagos HOMS crew in conjunction with the Lagos Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) recently embarked on a two day road trip to sensitize the teaming Lagos populace on the need for them to continue paying their taxes so that government could continue to render social service such as housing to its people.
