Succour in Ogun as govt plans housing loans for residents, civil servants

Ogun State government says it has concluded strategic plans to ensure that affordable housing are provided for interested residents, especially civil servants, through housing loans.

Speaking at the commissioning of 105-apartment  Orange Valley Estate (first phase) located at Oke-Mosan in Abeokuta, the state governor, Ibikunle Amosun, disclosed that state-owned housing agencies have signed agreement with financial institutions for loans in form of mortage to enable  home ownership in the state.

Governor Amosun said that the need to ensure that affordable housing facilities are provided for people  irrespective of their social status ‎by the state government to deepen home ownership was behind the about-to-be-implemented agreement with financial institutions to further help residents in the state, especially civil servants, secure homes.

He said, “let me emphasise that our administration is totally committed to our vision of affordable housing for our people, not just as part of our urban renewal programme, but also because shelter is a basic need of all people. In this direction, all relevant government agencies have been strengthened.

“But, we also appreciate the fact that we do not have the monopoly of funds or wherewithal. For this purpose, our housing agencies, particularly OPIC and Housing Corporation, are partnering with some financial institutions to provide loans in form of mortgage to deepen home ownership for our people.

“Let me use this opportunity to announce that this Housing Loan Scheme  will start with our public servants and the modalities will be communicated to them through their various agencies.”

The governor, who disclosed that government  had provided skilled and unskilled jobs for over 5,000 residents of the state through the construction of the estate built by Ogun State Investment and Property Corporation.

“It is pertinent to announce here that as a testament to our culture of honouring heroes, the streets in this estate are named after illustrious sons of Ogun State.  The first phase which we are commissioning today has four streets named after Wole Soyinka, Ernest Shonekan, Theophilus Ogunlesi and Anthony Asiwaju”, he announced.
