Surveyors appeal for closer ties with Ngerite

Surveyors under the aegis of Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (NIQS), Lagos State Chapter , have  appealed to the roofing materials manufacturing giant, Nigerite Limited, for closer relationship especially in its support for the institute’s programmes in order to deepen their relationship.

Olayemi Shonubi, the  chapter Chairman, who made this appeal during a visit to Nigerite’s Lagos office to welcome its new Managing Director,  Frank Le-Bris, to Nigeria, assure the MD of a memorable and exciting tenure.

“This visit also provides us an opportunity to express our appreciation to Nigerite regarding its support for our programmes and to see how we can further deepen the relationship between your firm and our institute,” Shonubi said, adding that the institute hoped to build on its relationship with the building solution company, spanning over 20  years and has been mutually rewarding.

“We are happy that some of your new products are out now, especially the dry construction because we believe it is the way to go. We want to get introduced to them so that we’ll be able to specify them to people because we know that Nigerite’s products are the way to go,” he said.

Responding, Le-Bris restated Nigerite’s commitment to the progress of NIQS, saying,  “We have two new embossed ceiling products we call Prestige Ceil and Legend Ceil while one is on its way. By the end of this year or next, we will launch new products and you will be informed and invited and we expect that you will be well represented. I hope that we will make a good team.”

On dry construction, Le-Bris informed the surveyors that there were different thicknesses used in the technique, noting that though the take-off has been quite slow, the company has been trying to meet with the government at all levels and other people to explain how dry construction works.

He explained that Nigerite’s parent company, Etex Group, had similar challenges in countries like Chile, Peru, Columbia, Argentina, and Indonesia at the initial stage but now dry construction is really well accepted in all these places.

“I will like to stress here that dry construction is not in competition with brick and mortar; it is a complement to it. We are moving from building system to industrial construction which allows us to build houses quicker and faster”, he said.
